NEW ROCHELLE, NY (01/24/2012)(readMedia)-- CNR Drama will present Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie from February 9 – February 12, 2012, on the Main Campus of The College of New Rochelle.

The play tells of a family in depression-era St. Louis, narrated in flashback by one of its characters, Tom Wingfield. Tom shows us his sister, the frail and disturbingly shy Laura, and their mother Amanda who carries her charmed, Southern past into the present, blurring the lines between reality and illusion. The entrance of a fourth character, Jim – The Gentleman Caller – provides both a glimpse of an outside world that is unavailable to Laura and a catalyst for Tom's ultimate decision. The drama is filled with poetic language that has thrust it into the pantheon of required reading in most secondary schools, but its essence is plain and understandable. It is a story of a family struggling through hard times. It is a story we can all relate to.

School of Arts & Sciences sophomore Hanna Mitsutomi is cast as Laura Wingfield. The parts of Tom, Amanda and Jim are played by actors Nick Masson, Valerie O'Hara and William Forber.
