The College of New Rochelle Recognizes High School Women Artists at 18th Annual Event

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (11/07/2011)(readMedia)-- The College of New Rochelle's 18th Annual High School Women Artists' Exhibition closed with an awards ceremony on the Main Campus in New Rochelle. The annual competition, created to offer aspiring young female artists nationwide the opportunity to showcase their two- and three-dimensional works, drew 47 entries from 16 different high schools in New York and Connecticut.

This year's winners were:

First Prize: Tatiana Greenspan, The Hackley School

Second Prize: Lauren Klarsfeld, Ardsley High School

Third Prize: Caroline Eicher, Pelham Memorial High School

The show, which included work in acrylic paint, photography, charcoal, pencil, clay, mixed media, and oil, also presented Juror's Choice Awards to: Emma Knox from The Hackley School; Katie Colford from Convent of the Sacred Heart; and Julie Shanus from Rye Country Day School.

The judges were: Judith Weber, artist, founder of Media Loft and president of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts; Jesse Sanchez, artist and president of the New Rochelle Art Association, and Kenise Barnes, curator and owner of Kenise Barnes Fine Art in Larchmont.

The first Catholic college for women in New York State, The College of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order. Today, it comprises the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three schools which admit women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult learners), the School of Nursing and the Graduate School. The Main Campus of the College is located in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of New York City. The College maintains five other campus locations in New York City.
