Three Trailblazers Endorse Zephyr Teachout for Attorney General
Mark Green, Judith Enck, Elisa Sumner join 30+ leaders and lawmakers across NY
NEW YORK, NY (12/08/2021) (readMedia)-- On Wednesday, Zephyr Teachout announced endorsements from three trailblazers in New York State: Mark Green, the first Public Advocate for New York City, Judith Enck, former EPA Regional Administrator under President Obama and Elisa Sumner, Chair of the Dutchess County Democratic Committee. Teachout entered the race for Attorney General last month with key endorsements from Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig, environmental activist Bill McKibben, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, Assemblymembers Ron Kim, Emily Gallagher, Anna Kelles, Phil Steck including 30 + leaders and lawmakers elected officials from 10+ counties total across New York.

"I'm so proud to add the support of these three trailblazing leaders. Whether it's protecting the environment, standing up to injustice or helping elect Democrats to all levels of office, Mark, Judith and Elisa have all played crucial roles in helping push New York in the right direction. I'm so excited to have them on my team," said Zephyr Teachout.
"Zephyr Teachout is different. While 95 percent of those who run and win are traditional politicians, Zephyr is a brilliant, independent-minded, public interest lawyer and consumer advocate who's written major books on corruption. She has a big vision for this office and has been a dynamic law professor, like two others in elected office -- Elizabeth Warren and Katie Porter. I'm proud to endorse another to join the legal pantheon of progressive women. Zephyr perfectly fits this public interest law office that Washington and 49 other states look to for leadership," said Mark Green, the first Public Advocate for New York City.
Mark Green was elected New York City's first Public Advocate in 1993. Green revolutionized and defined the role of Public Advocate, leading investigations into HMOs, hospitals and nursing homes that resulted in fines levied by the Attorney General's office. He first proposed the 311 complaint line used by New Yorkers every day, created the Voter Commission and prohibited companies from firing women because they were victims of domestic violence. He successfully sued Mayor Giuliani's administration to obtain information on racial profiling in the NYPD.
"In every corner of New York, polluters have wreaked serious damage on our environment. We need an Attorney General who will protect people from the ravages of climate change, acid rain, PFAS chemicals in drinking water, plastic pollution, crypto currency bit- coin mining, and lead and mold in public housing. It's time for the big polluters and fossil fuel companies to face consequences and pay for their damages. Zephyr Teachout is the innovative, bold and compassionate legal thinker we need who will hold polluters accountable," said Judith Enck, former EPA Regional Administrator under President Obama.
Judith Enck is a trailblazing environmentalist, with a long career both in government and as an advocate. She was appointed by President Obama to serve as Regional Administrator at the US Environmental Protection Agency and served as Deputy Secretary for the Environment in the New York Governor's Office. She is the founder and President of Beyond Plastics, a national project with the goal of eliminating plastic pollution everywhere. While at the EPA, Enck was subject to former Governor Cuomo's abusive behavior and was not afraid to punch back.
"Zephyr will not only take on the big fights but will also sweat the details and root out corruption and injustice at every level. Zephyr's the honest, independent fighter that New Yorkers -- and the Hudson Valley -- needs in the Attorney General's office. She'll always put the people first over protecting power or the well-connected, and that's why I'm proud to personally endorse my friend Zephyr," said Elisa Sumner, Dutchess County Democratic Committee Chair.
Elisa Sumner is the long-time chair of the Dutchess County Democratic Committee, where she's been leading the group's efforts to recruit volunteers and elect Democrats and women to office in Hudson Valley.
