Background:

The circle of life will be celebrated by Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, who will begin the week-long, painstaking process of creating a mandala-a painting made from colored grains of sand-on Friday, April 30 at 10:00am. A dismantling ceremony for the mandala is scheduled on Friday, May 4 at 10:00am.

The community can also take part in creating a separate, smaller mandala on the Forum stage. The design for the community mandala was created by GCC art student Dustin Pratt, and selected by the Global Education Committee from among six finalists as the design that most closely explored the theme of New Beginnings and Continuity in honor of the presidential inauguration of Dr. James Sunser. Public participation is welcome from 9:00am through 6:00pm daily, beginning Tuesday, May 1 and concluding Thursday, May 3.

Both creations are part of the week-long celebrations marking the installment of Dr. Sunser as the fourth president of GCC. To see the entire list of inauguration events, visit: http://www.genesee.edu/gcc/inauguration/events.cfm
