Tigard native Diana Boesch wins Nord Award to conduct thesis research

WALLA WALLA, WA (04/26/2013)(readMedia)-- Senior politics major Diana Boesch, a Tigard native, was selected as one of two recipients of the 2013 David Nord Award to complete a research project on an issue facing the GLBTQ community today.

For her project, she worked with Assistant Professor of Politics Melisa Casumbal to research the lasting effects of Lawrence v. Texas, a 2003 court case in which the court legalized sodomy in Texas, in the development of a collective gay legal identity. She eventually used her research as the backbone of her senior thesis.

On Monday, April 29, Boesch will present her findings in a lecture in Kimball Theatre at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.

Boesch is the daughter of Barbara Lindenberger and Mark Boesch and a 2009 graduate of Southridge High School.

The annual Whitman College Nord Awards honor alumnus David Nord '83, who graduated from Whitman with honors in political science. As a student, he served as ASWC President and was actively involved with Phi Delta Theta. After graduation, he went on the get a master's degree in psychology from Antioch University in Ohio, to set up a psychotherapy practice, and to become a full-time researcher and writer. Nord created an endowment for this award in 1996, three years before his death.
