LATHAM, NY (06/07/2007)(readMedia)-- Christina (Tina) Gerardi, MS, RN, CAE, has been named chief executive officer of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA). The appointment was made today by the NYSNA Board of Directors.

“We are confident that Tina has the expertise and the vision to guide the association in meeting the needs of our registered nurse members throughout the state,” said NYSNA President Verlia Brown.

Gerardi was hired as NYSNA’s deputy executive director in January 1998 and served in that capacity until January of this year, when she was named interim executive director. Before joining NYSNA in a staff role, Gerardi was an active member of the association. She served on the NYSNA Board of Directors and as chair of the association’s Council on Legislation.

Gerardi gained executive experience as an assistant vice president of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) and director of clinical services for the Iroquois Healthcare Consortium.

A graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, Gerardi earned her master’s degree at the University of Binghamton. She is a certified family nurse practitioner and started her career as a staff nurse and clinical nurse specialist at Albany Medical Center. She later served as manager of quality support services at Saratoga Hospital.

Gerardi serves on the nurse advisory board of the Nurses Service Organization and on the Plattsburgh College Foundation Corporation. She is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and the Empire State Society of Association Executives. A resident of Guilderland, N.Y., she currently serves on the board of directors of the Visiting Nurses Association of Albany, Inc., and is a past president of the Capital District Nurses Association.
