Top Sheet Pan Meals Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2019) (readMedia)-- Olivia Caron Smith of Winterset won first place and a $100 gift card in the Bolton and Hay Sheet Pan competition, judged Thursday, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Joyce Larson of New Market earned second place and a $50 gift card. Natalie Larson of Des Moines claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Contestants were challenged to prepare a complete meal on one 18 by 13 aluminum or stainless steel sheet pan.

Entries were judged on ease of preparation, completeness of meal, taste and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
