NASHVILLE, TN (10/03/2012)(readMedia)-- Trevecca Head Softball Coach Ben Tyree announced the signing/transfer of Devon Schmidt. Schmidt, a recent Belmont University graduate, has enrolled in Trevecca's Master's of Education program and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Schmidt is from Greenbrier, Tenn.
"We are excited to have someone of Devon's experience to come in and be able to fit into our program. Losing two talented senior pitchers (Riley Mashburn, Lauren Baker) from last year's team will give Devon the opportunity to receive some meaningful time in the circle this season," Tyree said.
The Madison, Tenn., native graduated from Goodpasture Christian School where she was a four-year started for coach Lee Phillips. Along with helping lead the Lady Cougars to four straight TSSAA State Championships, Schmidt was a two-time TSWAA All-State selection and a First-Team Middle Tennessee Coaches Association team selection.
At Belmont, Schmidt was an Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team selection appearing in 34 games. She led her team in earned run average as a freshman and sophomore.
As a sophomore at Belmont she appeared in 35 games, starting 23 at pitcher and led team with 3.22 ERA, in appearances (40), games started (23), complete games (12), innings pitched (173.2), and strikeouts (136). Led team with nine wins on the season while earning Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors. As a freshmen she was named to Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team with 34 appearances and 26 starts. She produced a team-low ERA of 4.27 with 112 strikeouts in 162.1 innings pitched. Schmidt earned Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors.
At Goodpasture she was a four-year starter under Head Coach Lee Phillips and led the Lady Cougars to a national ranking as high as 24th (USA Today Prep National Poll). Her awards included being named the All-District MVP twice, All-Tournament and All-District Tournament MVP twice, and All Mid-State Second Team. She holds records for most strikeouts in a season (410), strikeouts in a seven inning game, most games won as a pitcher. Her senior year included a 0.27 ERA and a .325 batting average.
Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian liberal arts university located in Nashville, Tenn., Music City, USA.
