Trine elementary education students lead Monster Math Night

ANGOLA (11/06/2018) Trine University senior elementary education majors enrolled in the Math and Science Methods course presented Monster Math Night at Hendry Park Elementary School on Oct. 30.

The Trine students created mathematics stations including escape games, haunted house building, mask making and code breaking. Each math station was aligned to an Indiana Department of Education mathematics standard and included a grade-level math objective, math activity and a self-checking assessment. All the elements were created by the Trine students.

Monster Math Night is a part of the STEAM initiative that the Parent Teacher Organization of Hendry Park Elementary School hosts for parents and students in grades K-5. Approximately 60 families attended.

"I am amazed at the dedication that these students exhibited for this event," said Ashley Overton, Ph.D., assistant professor in Trine University's Franks School of Education. "Students created quality math stations that amazed teachers, parents and students. This was a great experience for our students and we are pleased to be able to assist and collaborate with the Metropolitan School District of Steuben County."
