Troyce Vich Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Troyce Vich of Waterloo as an Iowan of the Day for the 2012 Iowa State Fair.

Vich makes a big impact in her community through youth involvement, leadership and volunteering countless hours. She was on the Waterloo Public Library Board of Trustees for 12 years and continues to be a library volunteer. Passionate about children's literacy, Vich is a part of the "Traveling Tales" program, which takes the library to different schools. Vich goes above and beyond and visits schools and retirement homes dressed as "Cat in the Hat" to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday each year.

Vich is known as enthusiastic, kind-hearted and spreads encouragement in her community. She volunteers at her church, Waterloo Days, Sartori Hospital's Festival of Trees, Sturgis Falls Days, teaches Sunday school and organizes dances for adults with special needs. In addition, she is one of the founding members of Womenade, a board member for Friends of the Library, avid Fair lover and has been a dedicated 4-H leader.

"Troyce in a nutshell: nothing she does is done halfway or grudgingly. She always has a spring in her step and a smile on her face and always an encouraging word for everyone," said Kathy McCoy, Vich's friend and nominator. Troyce's encouragement, optimism and community involvement make her a well deserving Iowan of the Day.

Vich's day of recognition will be Saturday, August 11 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Vich will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 11 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $85 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
