POTSDAM, NY (03/26/2014)(readMedia)-- William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" will be the premiere production in the new Proscenium Theater in SUNY Potsdam's Performing Arts Center. The show will open Thursday, April 3, with performances continuing until Sunday, April 13.

The College's Department of Theatre and Dance is set to present one of Shakespeare's best bawdy comedies, featuring unrequited love, mistaken identity, pranks galore and a happy ending. Set on a modern-day Caribbean island, this production not only dispenses with Elizabethan restrictions that traditionally denied female actors a place on the stage -- it also has women portraying many of the male characters.

SUNY Potsdam alumnus and lecturer Don Mandigo is the director of "Twelfth Night." Set design is by Todd P. Canedy, the lighting is by Don Borsh and Janet Sussman designed the costumes.

The student cast for the production includes: Katelyn Pekrul as Viola, Kristen Corriveau as Valentine, John Andalora as Orsino, Adam Barnes as Curio, Anthony Urda as Sebastian, Miles River Willow as Antonio, Heather Martell as Feste, Amber Schmidt as Fabian, Jason Francey as Toby Belch, Rebekah Berg as Maria, Cameron Fredericksen as Andrew Aguecheek, Carlene Daly as Olivia, and Arial Bauer as Malvolio. The show will include live saxophone, played by Crane School of Music student Khaled Jean.

The SUNY Potsdam production of "Twelfth Night" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, on April 3, 4 and 5, and April 10, 11 and 12. There will also be two Sunday matinees, both offered at 2 p.m. on April 6 and 13.

Ticket prices are $12 for the general public, and $10 for SUNY Potsdam faculty, staff and students. Tickets may be purchased through the Community Performance Series Box Office, located in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center, or by calling (315) 267-2277 or visiting www.cpspotsdam.org.
