Twelve New York National Guard Soldiers Deploy to Afghanistan

Soldiers will advise Afghan police

LATHAM, NY (12/31/2012)(readMedia)-- Twelve members of the New York Army National Guard have deployed to Afghanistan.

The Soldiers, who come from across New York, comprise a Security Forces Assistance Team and had been training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi.

Four Soldiers left over the weekend and the remaining eight deployed on Monday, Dec. 31.

Their mission will be to work with Afghan police as teachers, coaches and mentors. The Soldiers will be deployed for about nine months.
