LENOX & STOCKBRIDGE, MA (04/25/2007)(readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School, an independent school serving pre-school through secondary grades, is proud to announce that two ninth grade students, Jamila Benkhoud (Pittsfield, MA) and Zachary Carpenter (Pittsfield, MA), have been awarded $1,000 scholarships from The Lenox School for Boys Alumni Association for embodying the school’s motto: "To serve, not to be served."
When BCD was founded in 1946, it was housed on the campus of The Lenox School for Boys, an independent secondary school located on what is today the home of Shakespeare & Company. The school closed its doors in 1971 but alums stayed connected and in 1987 formed an active alumni association.
"Jamila and Zac, two long time BCD students, are the perfect candidates for this special recognition from The Lenox School for Boys Alumni Association as they exemplify the virtues of service and scholarship," says Head of School Rob Peterson. "Jamila is a very strong student, active in sports, unfailingly curious, cheerful, and a great friend to all. Zac is known for being easy-going and gregarious, and also disciplined and focused. In 8th grade, he won three seasons’ worth of awards given in recognition of outstanding sportsmanship, leadership, and team play."
Benkhoud and Carpenter were surprised with the honor at a special ceremony at the BCD Winthrop campus on April 9th. Jim Fawcett, BCD English teacher formerly of The Lenox School for Boys and alumni John Schneiter, and Paul Denzel (also a BCD graduate) presented Benkhoud and Carpenter with a check worth $1,000 each, which will go toward their financial aid awards, on behalf of the association.
