Two Events Planned at GCC Dansville

• Financial Aid Workshop on April 15 • Homeschool Information Night on April 29

BATAVIA, NY (04/01/2014)(readMedia)-- Two weeks to tax day and two separate events at GCC at Dansville to mark on your calendars! Once you have those tax returns completed, come to GCC Dansville for a free Financial Aid Workshop. The event is set for Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4 - 8 p.m. in Computer Lab 2 (Room 216) at the Dansville Campus Center, 31 Clara Barton St. in Dansville.

Determining what financial aid is available to a student begins with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Financial aid counselors from GCC will be available to help people fill out FAFSA online. Participants are asked to bring essential information, including social security numbers, birth dates, driver's licenses and most recent income tax returns. College Goal NY offers a checklist of what to bring here: http://collegegoalny.org/get-started/how-to-prepare.

Those who attend the event will be eligible to receive one of five $500 scholarships that will be awarded that evening. "This is a great opportunity we hope many students and their families will take advantage of," Amy Churchfield, interim associate dean at the Dansville Campus Center said.

The second event at GCC Dansville invites homeschool families to an information night on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. This event begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in Clara's Commons at the GCC Dansville Campus Center. Key college staff members who work with homeschool students will be available to educate families and answer questions.

Homeschooled students have extensive opportunities to advance their education through GCC. Classes are offered in many subject areas and students under age 18 may take approved ACE (Accelerated College Enrollment) courses at a reduced tuition rate. ACE Program Specialist Dan Snyder, who works with many homeschooled students currently enrolled at GCC, will be at the session to provide information. In addition, GCC Admissions Director Tanya Lane Martin will also be present to answer any admissions questions families may have.

The evening will include information about how GCC coursework can help homeschooled students earn the New York State High School Equivalency Diploma. Scholarship and financial aid information will also be available.

"Homeschool families appreciate the small class sizes, and many onsite and online courses available," Churchfield said. "We look forward to talking with students and their parents about the wide range of options."
