COLUMBUS, GA (08/02/2011)(readMedia)-- Edge Hill University in England has selected Columbus State University senior Melora Slotnick as its outstanding study abroad student for 2010-2011.

Slotnick, a theatre education major from Jonesboro, Ga., earned Edge Hill's Bob Wilson Award based on her fall 2010 enrollment at the school, which is one of Columbus State's 18 partner institutions.

She is the daughter of Michael and Melina Slotnick and 2008 graduate of Jonesboro High School.

Edge Hill, with 24,000 students on a 160-acre campus near Liverpool, hosts 35-45 study abroad students every year from the United States and Mexico.

The award, including a check for 100 British pounds (about $164), is named in honor of the retired chairman of Edge Hill's board of governors.

"Melora was a great participant in the program and made use of all her opportunities to learn about theatre and UK culture," said Neal McCrillis, director of Columbus State's Center for International Education, which administers study abroad programs for university students and faculty.

Slotnick landed the lead role in an Edge Hill theatre production, portraying Mary Henry in Carnival of Souls. "The show was a success," she said. "I am very proud of what I accomplished there and I am also proud that my prior studies prepared me for that semester abroad."

Slotnick, an Honors student, was among a university-record total 172 Columbus State student participants in study abroad programs in 2010-2011 across Europe, Africa, Asia and Central and South America.
