AIKEN, SC (12/12/2018) High school juniors and seniors throughout the CSRA took part in STEM Friday at the University of South Carolina Aiken.
The event helps introduce students to STEM fields of study and careers.
"Our region's workforce is steeped in STEM-related fields," said Dr. Chad Leverette, interim dean of the college of science and engineering at USC Aiken.
"We have a responsibility to help prepare the future STEM leaders in our state, region and nation. We hope STEM Friday sparks some interest in these important fields."
Almost 150 students who attend public or private high schools or who are homeschooled in the area attended the event. They visited with USC Aiken professors and students in psychology, mathematics, engineering, computer science, chemistry, physics, biology and geology. Many took part in interactive experiments.
"We had a 500 percent increase in STEM Friday attendance this year, showing the interest in STEM and USC Aiken," Leverette said.
