USciences' Natalie Artese (Ridley Park, Pa.) Receives Evelyn C. F. Ma Summer Research Grant

PHILADELPHIA, PA (05/23/2012)(readMedia)-- University of the Sciences' biology student Natalie Artese, class of 2013, has received the Evelyn C. F. Ma summer research grant which supports undergraduate student research in natural products and pharmacognosy.

Artese's research looks at the impact of a specific gene in A. thaliana, a small flowering plant known also as mouse-ear cress. The plant can be easily manipulated for research purposes, and Artese will study mouse-ear cress lacking the specific gene.

Evelyn C. F. Ma was a pharmacy student at USciences' Philadelphia College of Pharmacy who received her bachelor of science with distinction in 1966. The scholarship was later established by her family.

Artese resides in Ridley Park, Pa., with her parents Pam and Perry.
