Ulises Rodriguez named Oglethorpe University Male Athlete of the Week

Freshman Ulises Rodriguez of the Oglethorpe University men's soccer team has been named the OU Male Athlete of the Week (Oct. 20-26), after his performance in the Stormy Petrels' 4-0 win over Berry College, a victory that secured the team's fifth straight outright Southern Athletic Association (SAA) regular season title.

A Business Administration major, Rodriguez is a graduate of St. Peter's Preparatory School in Jersey City, NJ.

Rodriguez recorded five saves over the course of the game on Oct. 26, including four in the first half with the score either 0-0 or 1-0. He played for 81 minutes of what became the Petrels' fifth clean sheet of the season and picked up his eighth win of the year. He currently sits in second place in the SAA with a 0.66 goals-against average and a .829 save percentage. Rodriguez is also third in the conference with three clean sheets.

This past weekend, Rodriguez and the rest of the top-seeded Petrels shut out the eighth-seeded Hendrix College in the first round of the SAA playoffs. Oglethorpe will host the final two rounds of the SAA Men's Soccer Championship on Nov. 8 and Nov. 10.
