University of Minnesota Student Nickolas Kemske Presents Practical Solutions to Security Dilemmas

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (08/22/2011)(readMedia)-- University of Minnesota's Security Technologies student, Nickolas Kemske from Saint Paul, MN, presented his capstone research project on Applied Critical Infrastructure/Key Resource: Protection and Defense Non-credit Course Development Proposal to a panel of graduate faculty. Kemske received excellent marks on his capstone project and will be celebrating his completion of the Security Technologies master's program tomorrow evening at the University of Minnesota's West Bank Office Building.
The Security Technologies Capstone A includes a variety of fields, from food safety, medicine, science and engineering to emergency management, law and public policy. Employing variations of the case-study method for teaching and learning. Students review three of the most widely used case-study method, problem-based method and tabletop exercises as well as identify the strengths and weaknesses of each as reported in the professional literature. Students then research and prepare an original problem-based case that incorporates the best qualities of these three approaches while minimizing their limitations.
Next the students prepare a complete report along with a set of teaching notes for the original problem-based case prepared in Capstone A and use these to teach the problem-based case to a group of classmates. Students then modify the draft case and teaching notes based on feedback and submit a final report, presentation and an oral examination before the members of the Capstone Committee.
