Upcoming Crane School of Music Recital Features an Evening of Sonatas for Violin and Piano

Violinist Jerilyn Jorgensen and pianist Cullan Bryant will present an evening of sonatas on Thursday, Feb. 8 at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music.

POTSDAM, NY (02/05/2018) (readMedia)-- SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music will present an evening of sonatas for piano and violin later this week, on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m., in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

Guest artist Cullan Bryant will perform on piano, alongside Jerilyn Jorgensen, a visiting assistant professor of violin at The Crane School of Music. The concert will include sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, Paul Hindemith and Edvard Grieg.

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.

During his visit to The Crane School of Music, Bryant will also lead a masterclass with three accomplished string students. The guest artist will accompany the students on selected works and then coach them in a collaborative educational session, on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

About the performers:

Jerilyn Jorgensen is a visiting assistant professor of violin at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music, a member of the performance faculty at Colorado College and has been an adjunct faculty member in violin and chamber music at the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. From 1980 to 2004, she was the first violinist of the Da Vinci Quartet, and as a member of that ensemble she has performed throughout the United States, been a prizewinner in the Shostakovich International String Quartet Competition and was a finalist in the Naumburg Chamber Music Competition. Her recent concerts have included performances of the complete Beethoven sonatas with Bryant in Colorado Springs and Denver, Colo., as well as appearances in New Mexico, Boston and elsewhere. As a performer of historically informed concerts on original instruments, she has appeared with Bryant at the Frederick Collection of Historic Pianos in Ashburnham, Mass., and at the National Music Museum in Vermillion, S.D. She and Bryant are currently at work recording the complete Beethoven sonatas on period instruments at the Frederick Collection.

Cullan Bryant is among the most active chamber and collaborative pianists in New York City, maintaining a schedule of more than 50 recitals a year. He has performed with such artists as Emanuel Borok, Oleh Krysa, Midori, Sviatoslav Moroz and Peter Rejto, and has also appeared in recitals with members of the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the New York City Ballet Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Boston Symphony and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In 2002, he toured Japan in recitals with violinist Midori. Bryant made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1992, in recital with violinist Patmore Lewis. His college studies were with Robert Goldsand and Artur Balsam at the Manhattan School of Music.
