Daily – Butterfly House
The Butterfly House is open each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Visitors can view native butterflies up close and learn about the life stages and migratory patterns of these colorful insects. Butterfly House volunteers will be on hand each day to help identify different species of butterflies and to provide information on the insect's life cycle and the plants favored by each species. Daily – Life on the Lakes Juried Art Show
The Paul Smith's College VIC is hosting a Juried Art Show until Aug. 5. The theme of the show is Life on the Lakes. Free – underwritten by Friends of the VIC (https://ecommunity.paulsmiths.edu/page.aspx?pid=427).
VIC visitors can purchase a ticket to vote for the People's Choice Award, which will be announced at the Plein Air Art Invitational reception on Friday, Aug. 16.

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Aug. 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27, 29 and 31 – Interpretive Canoe Paddles
These two-hour trips provide a chance to explore the varied aquatic habitats at the Paul Smith's College VIC. Participants will explore Heron Marsh and Barnum Brook and paddle through a bog to Barnum Pond. Paddles are offered twice a day, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. $20/adult, $50/immediate family.

These multi-themed nature activities are designed for children ages 7-11. The program runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Please bring a healthy snack, lunch, water bottle, a raincoat, sunscreen, bug spray and appropriate footwear for the VIC trails. $35/child; $25 for friends of the VIC.

Wednesdays, Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 – Little Bobcats Program
VIC staff will lead a series of nature programs for 4-to-6-year-olds and their parents. The program runs from 9 a.m.-noon. Children should come with a healthy snack, water bottle, rain gear, bug spray and appropriate foot wear for the VIC trails.

Fridays, Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 – Farmers' Market
The Paul Smith's College VIC Farmers' Market will be open from 2-5:30 p.m. every Friday throughout the summer. It features fresh vegetables and berries in season, breads and other baked goods, herbs, jams and jellies, and plants. The market is part of the Adirondack Farmers' Market Cooperative.

Selected Sundays and Wednesdays, Aug. 14, 18 and 28 – Mushroom Walks
Join mushroom expert Susan Hopkins at 10 a.m. for a casual walk through the woods in search of mushrooms and fungi. We will discuss and identify poisonous and edible species and point out some of medicinal value, too. This walk will take at least two to two-and-a-half hours and will be held rain or shine. Bring a lunch and stay later if you like. We have books and reference materials on hand for further study.

The Paul Smith's College VIC will host a 5K trail run every other Wednesday until Sept. 25. Runners get a chance to check out the VIC trails and meet other trail enthusiasts. Registration starts at 6 p.m. The runs start at 6:30 p.m. $5/person.

Sunday, Aug. 4 – Volunteer Barbecue
Paul Smith's College VIC volunteers will meet at 5 p.m. for a barbecue and a preview of upcoming events and activities. Prospective volunteers are welcome. Hamburgers and hot dogs provided. Bring a place setting and salad or dessert to share.
Sunday, Aug. 4 – Shakespeare in the Adirondack Park - Macbeth
This 60-minute outdoor adaptation of Shakespeare's classic play is a production of the Adirondack Lake Center for the Arts. Six performers play all the roles, blending inventive physicality, evocative design and original text to create this mesmerizing and chilling tale of greed and ambition. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. Free.

Friday, Aug. 16 – Adirondack Plein Air Paints the VIC
The Paul Smith's College VIC is a featured location for the Adirondack Plein Air Festival, held this year from Thursday, Aug. 15-Sunday, Aug. 18. Friday, Aug. 16, is "Paint the VIC" day. Artists will take advantage of the natural settings on various VIC trails, including mountains, old growth forest, bogs, streams, marsh, beaver lodges and Adirondack lean-tos. Spectators are welcome throughout the day. Free.

Friday, Aug. 16 – Artist Reception for Plein Air Art Invitational

Monday-Friday, Aug. 26-30 – VIC-Certified Adirondack Naturalist Course
During this five-day program, you'll explore a variety of outdoor topics with scientists, naturalists and VIC staff. Various Adirondack habitats will be covered, including deciduous forest, marsh and bog. Other topics include birds, wildflowers, reptiles, amphibians, mushrooms, mammals, fish and more. The week will be organized in half-day field sessions. Meals and accommodations not provided. The cost of the full five-day program is $250 per person. Half-day field sessions are $50 per person per session.
