Paul Smith's College will host the Empire State Winter Games snowshoe sprints at 10 a.m. at the soccer field, followed by a 5K snowshoe run at 2 p.m. at the VIC. Registration information is available at empirestatesintergames.com or 518-327-6241.

Saturday, Feb. 13 – Natural Valentine Gifts

Learn to create dream catchers, bracelets, earrings and other gifts during this workshop from 10 a.m. to noon and give your valentine something special this year. $20/person. Materials supplied.

Sunday, Feb. 14 – Happy Valentine's Day

Bring your valentine for a day of skiing or snowshoeing at the VIC.

Thursday, Feb. 18 – Volunteer Potluck

Get the scoop on upcoming events and activities. 5:30-7 p.m. Sign up for volunteer opportunities and organize training sessions. Bring a dish to pass and a place setting. We will meet for hors d'oeuvres at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is at 6 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 18 –Armchair Lecture Series

Join professors Kelly Cerialo, Kate Glenn and several Paul Smith's students at 7 p.m. for a talk on their study-abroad trip to Italy last summer. They'll discuss the Adirondack and Apennine Sustainable Parks and Communities project and the sustainable tourism marketing plan they developed to attract American tourists to the Italian park. $5/person, free for Friends of the VIC and volunteers.

Saturday, Feb. 20 – Intro to Maple Sugaring

Lean modern methods of designing, installing and maintaining a sugar bush. 10 a.m. to noon. Other topics include backyard tapping and the VIC's community-based maple program. $20/person.

Sunday, Feb. 21 – Artist Reception

Join artist Mike Lynch from 3-5 p.m. for an artist reception. His exhibit is on display at the VIC until March 7. Paul Smith's student Isabella Padron will provide jazz piano at the event.

Saturday, Feb. 27 – Chili Ski Fest

Don't miss the annual chili tasting and fun-on-the-snow extravaganza, including our ski and snowshoe demonstrations, skiing with a naturalist, a waxing clinic and a "Find the Pavilions" poker run. $10/person, free with the purchase of a ski pass.

Saturday, Feb. 27 – Vegetable Garden Planning Workshop

Join Richard Gast of the Franklin County Cornell Cooperative Extension at 10:30 a.m. for this free workshop.

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – Interpretive Snowshoe Walks

Diane Minutilli, former U.S. Forest Service interpretive naturalist, will work with Paul Smith's College students to offer a variety of natural- and cultural-history walks designed to get you outside this winter. 10 a.m.-noon. $20/person, includes trail pass; $15 for season-pass holders; and $10 for Friends of the VIC with a season pass. Call for special family and group rates. Preregister by 5 p.m. the day before.

Sundays – Sunday Ski and Music

Enjoy live music Sunday afternoons at the VIC. During the ski season, we will have a variety of talented local musicians playing in our great room from 1-3 p.m. until March 6.
