CHESTER, PA (05/21/2012)(readMedia)-- John P. Vaders of Thornton, Pa., was commissioned as a second lieutenant of the U.S. Army on Thursday, May 10 through the ROTC program at Widener University. He graduated from Widener on May 12 with a degree in criminal justice.

Vaders also completed the Leader's Development and Assessment Course and attended the Cadet Leader Training Program at Fort Jackson, S.C. During his senior year at Widener, he served as the Alpha Company commander and the assistant to the battalion adjutant.

Vaders will enter active duty to attend the Engineer Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and will receive his follow on assignment after the course.
