WALLA WALLA, WA (01/23/2013)(readMedia)-- Vancouver native Evan Griffis recently received an Abshire Award to fund an upcoming research project addressing gun use in the United States. Evan Griffis begins this spring with Professor Jason Pribilsky, Whitman College's Associate Professor of Anthropology, by examining the Pink Pistols, a group primarily composed of gay gun rights activists. The project's goal is to understand perspectives of groups from both ends of the political spectrum on gun ownership.

Griffis is the son of Mary and Earl Griffis from Vancouver, WA. He is a 2011 graduate of Union High School.

At Whitman, Griffis is a sophomore anthropology and gender studies double major, Vice President of the school's Phi Delta Theta chapter, President of the GLBTQ club, and an Intern with the Intercultural Center.
