PAUL SMITHS, NY (12/07/2012)(readMedia)-- U.S. Army veteran Jackie Hite '12 will be the featured speaker Sunday at Paul Smith's College's annual Winter Commencement exercises.

Hite served 22 years, and seven deployments, before retiring from the military in 2008. When she arrived at Paul Smith's, there were only a handful of veterans enrolled on campus; this fall, 39 were enrolled. Hite has played a significant role in improving the experience for veterans on campus: In addition to helping organize the college's Veterans Club and serving as its first president, she instituted the tradition of displaying bios and pictures of veteran faculty, staff and students in the Joan Weill Student Center each Veterans Day.

Hite earned an associate degree in culinary arts and a bachelor's degree in culinary arts and service management from Paul Smith's this spring. She is presently assistant chef at National Sports Academy in Lake Placid. Hite is the mother of two children: a son, Tylan, and a daughter, Jayla.
