WAMC Celebrates Labor Day with Special Programming
ALBANY, NY (08/29/2013)(readMedia)-- WAMC Northeast Public Radio is proud to announce their special Labor Day programming, which will include an inspirational documentary and toe-tapping tunes, Monday, September 2nd.
Beginning at 9 a.m., we'll begin with a two-hour documentary spanning the career of Sly and The Family Stone, intertwined with hits like "Everyday People," "Stand," and "Dance to the Music." Sly & The Family Stone laid down a template that inspired an era of youthful rebellion and independence as the '60s turned into the '70s, and continues to have an impact on music today.
At 11 a.m. we'll wrap the morning up with a dedication to the King himself, Elvis. In 1973 Elvis Presley recorded his last major studio session at Stax Recording Studios in his hometown of Memphis. The special, Elvis at Stax, chronicles those sessions.
Join host of Midday Magazine, Brian Shields at noon, followed by science enthusiasts Jab and Robert on Radiolab.
From there, we'll introduce a brand new one-hour special featuring the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at 2 p.m. This special will take you behind the scenes of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band's first-ever album of all new material, "That's It," co-produced by Jim James from My Morning Jacket.
"We hope that our listeners will include us in their Labor Day celebrations by tuning in, and that they will enjoy these special programs," said Katie Britton WAMC's Program and Outreach Director.
