WAMC to Host Albany Mayoral Forum on Sustainability

ALBANY, NY (06/20/2013)(readMedia)-- WAMC Northeast Public Radio, in partnership with the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF), invites the public to attend the 2013 Albany Mayoral Forum on Sustainability on Tuesday, July 2nd from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Linda, 339 Central Avenue, Albany. This special hour-long forum will be broadcast live.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, Albany will elect a new mayor in November. But where does each candidate stand on the environmental issues that impact our city? Will Albany build on its status as a clean technology hub to become a broader sustainability leader –in everything from transportation, to community gardens and green buildings – or will green concerns be set on the back burner?

This non-partisan event gives residents the opportunity to hear their candidates' positions in their own words in a panel-style program that will include questions from the public. Every officially declared candidate has been invited to participate, and so far, Kathy Sheehan, Corey Ellis, Marlon Anderson and Jesse Calhoun have accepted.

Moderated by WAMC President and CEO Dr. Alan Chartock and NYLCV Education Fund President Marcia Bystryn, the event will cover a myriad of topics, including waterfront development, energy efficiency, climate adaption, and more.

According to Chartock, "This program is not only a chance for residents to come out and voice their environmental concerns in a forum that welcomes their input; for many of us, it's also a chance to meet the candidates for the first time."

The live radio broadcast can also be heard streaming live at www.wamc.org.

While the forum is open to the press and public, space is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your space, contact NYLCVEF at https://www.thedatabank.com/dpg/255/personal2.asp?formid=nylcvefmeet&c=6707921
