WKCTC hosting a red-carpet event to honor local educators March 15

MEDIA ADVISORY: PADUCAH, KY (03/07/2018) West Kentucky Community and Technical College is hosting a red-carpet event to celebrate local educators for going above and beyond each day to make a difference in the lives of students. The college's first Regional Educators Awards and Scholarship Program will be held March 15 at 5 p.m. in WKCTC's Clemens Fine Arts Theatre.

Twenty-eight educators, who will be recognized at the event, were nominated by students, parents and colleagues for their outstanding service and dedication to education. Winners will receive the following awards at the ceremony.

  • Distinguished Faculty (Pre-K-5th Grade) Award
  • Distinguished Faculty (6th-12 Grade) Award
  • Distinguished Administrative Award
  • Cornelia Reece Unsung Hero Staff Award

The program will include local musical performers Calvin Cole, Jr., and Amanda Wilson, and feature nationally known speaker and trainer Dr. Lucian Yates III, dean of graduate and professional studies at Tennessee State University. Dr. Yates, the manager of the Yates Group, has served in a variety of education roles in Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

In conjunction with the award program, a scholarship for WKCTC students interested in K-12 teaching, early childhood education, or educational support majors has been established to encourage and assist the region's future educators. Information about the scholarship will be shared at the event. The first scholarship will be awarded in the fall.
