FULTON, MO (10/28/2010)(readMedia)-- William Woods University senior Amy Phillips has been selected to receive the 2010 Donaldson Foundation Teacher Education Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship comes from a $10,000 donation made to the Missouri Colleges Fund by Donaldson Company, Inc. The award is given to a student enrolled in a teacher education program at a private institution, and is based on a combination of financial need and outstanding academic performance.

Missouri Colleges Funds is an organization that assists private colleges and universities in the State of Missouri by working with private donors to secure scholarship opportunities.

Phillips was nominated for the award by Dr. Betsy Tutt, professor of education and chair of the education division at William Woods.

"Amy is very technically competent with computers, a very serious student, very hardworking, sweet and thoughtful," said Tutt.

Phillips, daughter of Eddie and Martha Phillips, is a native of California, Mo. She is majoring in elementary education with an early childhood endorsement, and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honors society for education majors.

She said she is grateful for the scholarship and the experience she has had at William Woods, and is excited to move forward into her career.

"William Woods University has helped me grow academically and has given me the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming an elementary teacher. I feel honored to be the recipient of the Donaldson Scholarship, and I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible for me."
