FULTON, MO (10/28/2010)(readMedia)-- William Woods University student Calla Lovell has been selected to receive the Emerson Scholarship Award, an $850 award made possible by the Missouri Colleges Fund. The scholarship is given to a student selected as an outstanding representative of the university.

Missouri Colleges Funds is an organization that assists private colleges and universities in the State of Missouri by working with private donors to secure scholarship opportunities.

Lovell is a junior at William Woods and is double majoring in American Sign Language interpreting and Deaf studies with a minor in education. She is a head community advisor on campus and a member of both Alpha Chi Omega sorority and the American Sign Language Club. She is also involved with the Campus Activities Board and the Student Assembly.

The daughter of Kenneth and Debbie Hartman, Lovell is a native of Russellville, Mo. Her time at WWU has taught her important lessons about the field of interpreting.

"I have learned the importance of getting involved and socializing with the Deaf community-it is the key to success when working to become fluent in American Sign Language," she said.

She is grateful to receive the Emerson Scholarship Award, and excited to become a successful sign language interpreter.

"I am extremely blessed to have been chosen for such a great scholarship. I feel my hard work is truly paying off."
