Opponent’s 2006 Site Illustrates Broken Promises

MASTIC, NY (06/16/2008)(readMedia)-- The Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District reached a major milestone today, as his Web site can now boast an impressive 1,000,000 visitors since its launch. GOP candidate Lee Zeldin released the following statement:

While my opponent won't admit that the campaign has begun, I've got a million page views that say otherwise.

People are concerned about the issues and want to know more about who the candidates are, where we stand, and how we'll protect their wallets. While my opponent's taking a summer vacation from the issues, and ducking debate challenges left and right, our Web site is up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, outlining my positions, featuring our ads and releases and offering opportunities for folks to support our commitment to change.

One of our top priorities is updating our campaign website daily. Despite his large campaign war chest, my opponent hasn't yet provided interested voters with an updated website for this November's election.

My opponent's current campaign website, which appears to be from the 2006 election outlines numerous positions on its issue page, provides keen insight into his broken promises and the shortcomings of his party. He shouldn't have promised to lower gas prices, which have gone up 74.5% since January 2007. In last week's out-of-touch mass mailer, he claimed that Congress has lowered our gas prices. Either he hasn't paid for a fill up lately or he thinks the rest of us are oblivious to the fact that we are paying much more for gas these days.

Other broken promises on his issues page include supporting the repeal of the marriage penalty, supporting the expansion of the child tax credit, and by far the most offensive, voting for ‘every defense funding resolution to ensure that U.S. troops are properly equipped and protected to meet our national security challenges and build a safer world.'

Our 1,000,000 page views are indicative of a public that's disenchanted with Congress, that's interested in military veterans running for office and committed to finding solutions to the litany of challenges that face our communities in the 21st Century.
