CENTER VALLEY, PA (05/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Nichole Wagner, a family nurse practitioner student at DeSales University and resident of Walnutport, Pa., was recently awarded a 2012 scholarship from the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania.
Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania, a non-profit foundation created to recognize and retain nurses in Pennsylvania, provides scholarship funds for individuals pursuing an education in nursing.
Scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic achievement, leadership potential as evidenced by special honors and/or special recognition, community service, and personal commitment to the profession of nursing.
Wagner, who won in the advanced degree student category, is one of seven recipients who earned a Nightingale honor. Other categories include students from all levels of nursing education including a licensed practical nursing program, undergraduate or graduate degree program, or a doctoral program.
Wagner, who is expected to graduate from DeSales this summer, was also recently awarded an emergency medicine fellowship from St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network, where she is an emergency room nurse and the forensic program coordinator.
The Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania is governed by a 24-member volunteer board of trustees, consisting of individuals who are leaders in nursing, business, industry, and other health care fields. Since 1991, the foundation has awarded 125 scholarships and believes that recruiting and retaining nurses of this caliber will help to ensure the future of excellent health care in Pennsylvania.
