The Chamber of Schenectady County welcomed Watershed Assessment Associates, LLC with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate its recent opening at 78 Yates Street, Schenectady, on Thursday, June 21, 2007.

Watershed Assessment Associates is an environmental consulting and educational firm specializing in watershed analysis, stream biomonitoring, stream taxonomy and environmental services. “As Tech Valley embraces economic development and population growth, it is imperative to anticipate, monitor for, and address the environmental impact of the land-use changes that will occur,” explained owner and biologist Kelly Nolan.

In addition, they offer a variety of educational services. Workshops are offered to professionals, students and volunteers across the United States and Canada. A research program for undergraduate and graduate students, named Lotic Scene Investigation is in place and plans to expand with an extracurricular environmental program for secondary students is underway. The Yates Street facility also offers conference space with current media technology for educational conferences and practical laboratory training.

The business is owned by J. Kelly Nolan, an Aquatic Biologist, and his wife Dr. Christine Murphy, a board-certified internist who acts as managing partner and science editor. Once a home-based business, the firm was transformed by Nolan and Murphy into a limited liability company. The growth associated with the Tech Valley initiatives will make monitoring They anticipate hiring additional biologists as the company continues to grow.
