Waukee Baker Wins State Fair Fruit Cobbler Title

DES MOINES, IA (08/13/2019) (readMedia)-- Susie Jones of Waukee won first place and a $500 cash award in the Best Fruit Cobbler, Bettie or Buckle competition, judged Sunday, August 11, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Sharon Gates of Des Moines claimed second place and $250. Mary Cownie of West Des Moines earned third place and $125.

Entries were judged on taste, originality and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
