Waverly Farmer Wins Big with Tall Corn at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/12/2022) (readMedia)-- This year's battle for corn stalk supremacy has been claimed by Ron Zelle of Waverly, Iowa.

Zelle's entry of 14 feet, 3.5 inches won first place and a $75 award in the America'sTall Corn Contest judged Wednesday, August 10, prior to the start of the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Zelle also claimed first place and $50 in the Iowa Tall Corn division with a 14 foot, 3.5 inch corn stalk entry.

Mary Beth Zelle of Waverly claimed second place with a 14 foot, 3 inch entry, and Will Zelle of Prairie Village, KS, took third place with a 14 foot, 1.5 inch entry.

All entries in the Tall Corn Contest are on display in Pioneer Hall.
