ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (07/29/2013)(readMedia)-- Flagler College Associate Professor of Sociology Casey Welch has teamed up with Professor Emeritus John Fuller of the University of West Georgia for a new textbook aimed at helping people understand the formal structure of the criminal courts.
Welch said that "American Criminal Courts: Legal Process and Social Context" was designed to explain the basics of the criminal court process, but also to help the reader understand why judges and lawyers do things such as dismiss or plead down cases, and suppress what seems to be important and good evidence.
"This book brings to life how lawyers and judges go about making the many decisions required of them every day," said Welch. "It minimizes legal jargon, while still explaining the intricate details of court operations."
The book was published in February by Elsevier.
