WHITTER, CA (11/27/2013)(readMedia)-- Senior Julia Marino, a West Sayville, NY native, participated in the 2013 Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR), Change the World: Participate, Innovate, Illuminate, hosted by Whittier College on Saturday, November 23, along with 1,100 scholars from colleges and universities from throughout the region.

A sociology major, Marino presented her research, "Examining the Relationship between New Urbanist Theory and Implementation: A Case Study of Downtown Brea," in a 15-minute seminar presentation chaired by faculty moderators.

Nominated to the Whittier College Dean's List and awarded the John Greenleaf Merit Scholarship, Marino conducted her research as part of the Keck Undergraduate Fellowship program which supports Whittier College juniors in pursuing their interests by engaging in student research, internships, and intensive programs of study.

SCCUR provides a forum for the presentation of the best research, scholarship, and creative activities of undergraduate students in the region, and encourages communication of innovative achievements across disciplines, including the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and applied sciences.
