SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (08/25/2010)(readMedia)-- S. Scott Mason, CFSP (Certified Funeral Service Practitioner), owner and Managing Funeral Director of the Mason Funeral Home in Westfield, was elected president of the New York State Funeral Directors Association (NYSFDA) at the organization's annual meeting which concluded today in Saratoga Springs, New York. A New York State licensed funeral director since 1991, and in Pennsylvania since 1984, Mason will serve for the 2010-2011 term.
Mason is a NYSFDA Executive Committee and Board member. He is also a member of the NYSFDA Audit Committee and the Government Affairs Committee. He serves on the SUNY Canton Mortuary Science Advisory Committee, as well as the National Funeral Directors Association, Chautauqua County Funeral Directors Association, Funeral Ethics Association and the American Academy of Bereavement.
Active in many civic affairs, Mason is a board member of the Westfield Development Corporation, a member of the Westfield Rotary Club, A member of the Board of Directors of the Westfield Memorial Hospital and a member of the Westfield Exempt Fireman's Association. He speaks at many community and church sponsored forums on Funerals and Death.
Mason is a graduate of SUNY Canton with a degree in Mortuary Science; he also attended Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania where he studied Psychology and Sociology.
Scott and his wife Debbie have two daughters, Amanda who is employed by the City of Syracuse and Katlyn, who is a Junior at SUNY Cortland. The Masons reside at the funeral home.
Founded in 1889, NYSFDA's mission is to promote the highest standards of funeral service to the public and to enhance the environment in which its members operate. More than 900 member firms and 3500 licensed funeral directors who operate across the state belong to the New York State Funeral Directors Association. In addition to maintaining a Web site at www.nysfda.org, NYSFDA also publishes a quarterly newspaper column "Transitions" and brochures which educate and inform consumers about end-of-life issues.
