MANCHESTER, NH (01/12/2012)(readMedia)-- John P. Gallivan, of Wethersfield, was honored recently by the Alumni Council of his alma mater, Saint Anselm College. He received the Young Alumni Service Award for involvement with the American Cancer Society and relentless advocacy on behalf of bone marrow recipients.

Gallivan graduated from Saint Anselm in 2001 with a degree in English and now teaches English at Wethersfield High School. He proposed and supported a bill in the Connecticut Legislature that required insurance companies to cover the cost of bone marrow testing. The award is given to alumni who have graduated 10 or fewer years ago, and represent, to an extraordinary degree, the values of the Saint Anselm community.

Saint Anselm College is a liberal arts college in the Catholic, Benedictine tradition, which prepares nearly 2,000 undergraduates for graduate school and careers on a 400-acre campus outside Manchester, N.H.
