WHITTER, CA (08/01/2013)(readMedia)-- Whittier local Mario Obando was named to the Spring 2013 Dean's List in recognition of his academic excellence. The History major graduated Summa Cum Laude on May 17 and was named "Outstanding Graduate" in his major.
Obando led an impressive college career, undertaking three undergraduate fellowship -- the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, UC Irvine Summer Research Fellowship, and most recently, Richard M. Nixon Fellowship.
As a Nixon fellow, Obando completed a semester-long internship at the Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, CA. and research project that involved creating a virtual exhibit related to the Nixon administration's policies on Latin American.
In recognition of his overall academic accomplishments, Obando was awarded the Alianza de Los Amigos Academic Achievement Award during the Spring 2013 Honors Convocation.
Undergraduate students are awarded Dean's List honors if he or she earns a 3.70 grade point average (GPA) while completing a full-time course load (12 units) in the fall and spring terms.
