STAUNTON, VA (07/20/2010)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Parks and Recreation Department will be showing Where the Wild Things Are on the X-Treme Screen at Family Night Flix. The Flix series features family oriented movies in a drive-in like setting on specified Friday Nights at Gypsy Hill Bandstand. Where the Wild Things Are will be shown beginning at dusk, this Friday night July 23rd at Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand. The movie is an adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story of the same title, where Max, a disobedient little boy sent to bed without his supper, creates his own world--a forest inhabited by ferocious wild creatures that crown Max as their ruler. The Gypsy Hill Bandstand area will create a perfect setting for this particular movie with 200 year old trees that embrace and devour the viewing area.
The movie is rated PG for mild thematic scenarios, like destruction of property, divorce and its byproducts; feeling of abandonment, emptiness and acting out. Some of the voices in the movie are James Gandolfini as Carol, Forest Whitaker as Ira, Catherine O'Hara as Judith, Chris Cooper as Douglas, Paul Dano as Alexander and Lauren Ambrose as K.W.
Parents and Grandparents: Be sure and bring comfortable seating for the children. Sleeping bags, pillows and lawn chairs are welcome. Shenandoah Pizza will be on hand selling their handmade fresh ingredient pizzas. Water, Soda and movie candy will also be available. The event is for anyone who loves imagination and adventure. Admission is free to everybody. Dog are not permitted in the viewing area.
