FULTON, MO (04/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Lucas Watson, a sophomore from Louisiana, Mo., was one of two William Woods University students who won awards at the Missouri Academy of Science's 47th annual meeting April 15-16 at Lincoln University.

Lucas won second place in the biology poster presentation sections for his work on Lyme--and Lyme-like bacteria found in Missouri ticks.

He was accompanied by his faculty mentor, Dr. Mary Spratt, Cox Distinguished Professor of Science.

"These students worked very hard on their projects throughout the school year, and it was rewarding to see them recognized for the quality of their work," Spratt said.

Presently, 49 colleges and universities around Missouri hold an institutional membership status. Many industries and other private businesses support the academy with corporate memberships.
