Winter concerts bring variety of sounds to Elizabethtown College

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (01/30/2014)(readMedia)-- The winter months are alive with music at Elizabethtown College. A soprano, an oboist, a flurry of flutes and student ensembles create beautiful chamber music in concert at E-town. All performances are at 7:30 and are free.

Monday, Feb. 10 -- "A Journey to Old Vienna - An Evening in Three-Quarter Time," Leffler Chapel and Performance Center

Vienna, a centuries-old center for the arts in Europe, is the setting as soprano Phyllis Drackley focuses on music of the "Jugendstil" in vocal music of Viennese composers of the early 20th century.

A slide show presentation will showcase art, architecture and ambience of Vienna in the period.

Monday, Feb. 17 -- Monday Concert Series, oboe and piano, Leffler Chapel and Performance Center

Rebecca Mindock, oboist in the Mobile Symphony and Wyoming Symphony, performs the music of Bach, Britten, Schwantner, Saint-Saens and Bill Douglas. Mindock, an assistant professor at the University of South Alabama, is joined by pianist Dr. Justin Badgerow, assistant professor at Elizabethtown College.

Monday, March 17 – Flutefest, Zug Recital Hall

Flute students of Dr. Paula Nelson present a concert featuring all members of the flute family from piccolo to bass. The Arioso Flute Choir, along with a variety of small flute ensembles and soloists, perform light classical music plus some Irish tunes in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

Monday, March 24 -- Student Chamber Concert, Zug Recital Hall

An evening of music selections by the College's small instrumental and vocal ensembles.
