Wintergreen Student Jay Taylor Wins Award at University of Vermont Commencement

BURLINGTON, VT (06/11/2010)(readMedia)-- Wintergreen resident James "Jay" Taylor, who graduated this year with a major in English, is the 2010 recipient of UVM's Class of '67 Award. The award recognizes a senior student who has been an active member of the university community in student organizations, leadership, and/or varsity athletics.

During his time as a student, Taylor completed minors in consumer advertising, geology and psychology. Equally busy outside the classroom, he served as student body president in the Student Government Association, worked as a resident assistant for Residential Life, co-founded of the Racquetball Club, served as an "AdvoCat" for UVM Admissions, was an active member of Mortar Board and the Boulder Society, and served as a member of the national Sodexo Student Board of Directors.

Taylor captured his UVM experience with these words:  "In my every endeavor, I have worked to improve upon what I was left with and prepare those after me to advance even further."

The award was announced at the University of Vermont's 206th Commencement ceremonies on May 23, where some 2,411 students were awarded a variety of bachelor's degrees, an estimated 514 advanced degrees and certificates were awarded by the UVM Graduate College and approximately 102 women and men took the oath of Hippocrates following the awarding of their M.D. degrees.
