YSU Honors College students enhance communication skills through conversations with local seniors

A group of YSU Honors College students in an Honors seminar called "Let's Talk" recently spent an evening practicing communication skills and enjoying the company of residents at three local long-term care facilities. Eleven students participated in casual conversations over ice cream and learned about the lives of those living at Marian Living Center and Assumption Village Skilled Nursing Home, both in North Lima, and Humility House in Austintown. The students were enrolled in the honors seminar, Let's Talk, which explores principles of interpersonal communication and provides practical strategies for having meaningful conversations. The seminar culminates in an opportunity to converse with older adults. Students in the Honors College collectively amass approximately 60,000 hours of volunteer service annually through a variety of projects which impact the campus and community.
