Young Yodeler Warbles to State Fair Win

DES MOINES, IA (08/24/2009)(readMedia)-- Laura McCargar, 12, of Pleasant Hill, won first place in the State Fair Yodeling competition held Thursday at the 2009 Iowa State Fair.

Sarah Stallman, 22, of Kirksville, Mo., earned second place and Gene Reed, 74, of St. Charles, claimed third place.

Fourth place was awarded to Julie Moss, 51, of Bondurant and fifth place went to Larry Freese, 74, of Washington.

Each participant was allowed to perform two songs or yodel for three minutes.

The contest was part of "Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions" in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall.
