Zeldin Challenges Bishop to August 6th Radio Debate
MASTIC, NY (07/25/2008)(readMedia)-- The Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District today challenged his opponent to the first 30 minute debate of the campaign for the morning of August 6-during the first week of Congressional recess-to an energy crisis-centered discussion on WRIV radio.
Army veteran Lee Zeldin, the Republican and Conservative Party candidate for the Eastern Long Island District has made numerous debate challenges. His opponent seems to think he is entitled to a vacation from the issues.
"It's not like he's busy legislating. Congress continues to pay much more then lip service to the potential crisis of rising home heating costs as the cold weather season approaches," said Zeldin. "Rather than wasting time bragging about proposals to solve problems they should actually start solving problems."
With the American Energy Act and other proposals receiving widespread support, Zeldin wants to know why his opponent continues to stand idly by as Congress is finally ready to act.
"Despite all the challenges we face, my opponent clearly doesn't take this election seriously, and by extension he doesn't take the district seriously," said Zeldin.
"I want to know why Congress' stubbornness continues to cause us to suffer," said Zeldin. "My opponent's lack of action is not the type of conservation we seek. Mr. Bishop, we want answers. Stop hiding."

Zeldin served as an aide to State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle. The Shirley resident studied at the University at Albany, graduated from Albany Law School, and earned his commission through Army ROTC. He was a paratrooper, prosecutor and magistrate with the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps. In the summer of 2006, he was a JAG attorney deployed to Iraq. He is currently an attorney at Raiser & Kenniff on Long Island.
