Zeldin Discusses Money in Politics
Also Reiterates Campaign Platform, Renews Focus
MASTIC, NY (03/31/2008)(readMedia)-- The endorsed candidate for New York’s First Congressional District today discussed the need for elected officials to maintain the public trust and reiterated his focus on five core campaign themes.
As the race for the First CD begins to heat up, Lee Zeldin, the endorsed Republican running for Congress out of the Eastern Long Island district, urged an emphasis on issues important to the constituency and the importance of strong, integrity-based leadership.
“Throughout our democracy, Americans entrust great responsibility to their elected officials,” said Zeldin. “You can have all the ideas in the world, but these ideas will never get off the ground without integrity and good judgment.”
Commenting on recent allegations of impropriety against his opponent surfacing in the press, Zeldin said that his military experience taught him that perception is reality, and that following the recent vetting of issues related to his opponent, any conduct that gives voters the perception that Bishop’s family is personally benefiting from his public service should cease and desist immediately.
In terms of serving the public, Zeldin focused on his campaign platform which emphasizes five core issues:
- Reducing Suffolk County’s high cost of living
- Strengthening our national security
- Securing our nation’s borders
- Supporting our senior citizens
- Better assisting our military veterans
“People are elected to public office to address the needs of the public, not to amass fortunes for their families,” said Zeldin. “As a leader, I recognize the importance of perception as I am pursuing this public office for the common good rather than self interest. I am proud to have served our country in the Army, and I am ready to continue this service and focus on the needs of the people of Suffolk County as a member of Congress.”
