PATCHOGUE, NY (10/02/2008)(readMedia)-- In a stunning reversal from previous campaigns, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee announced that they have endorsed the candidacy of Lee Zeldin in his campaign for the United States House of Representatives against Congressman Tim Bishop.

In their endorsement, the VFW PAC cited support from New York VFW leadership and Zeldin's position in support of his fellow veterans, defense/national security related issues, and military personnel issues as the basis for the endorsement.

In response to the endorsement, Zeldin issued the following statement:

Of all the wonderful support I've received throughout this campaign, the endorsement of the Veterans of Foreign Wars PAC has been the most humbling. As a veteran and VFW member of Post 8651 in Mastic Beach, I'm so proud to have earned this honor.

All campaign long, I've run on a platform built on support for veterans and providing a robust foundation for our nation's security needs.

Most importantly, I wouldn't have earned this endorsement without the support of my fellow veterans. The outpouring of support from New York's VFW leadership was essential to getting the VFW PAC to recognize me with this great honor.

With this endorsement, the 50,000 veterans of the First Congressional District are more united in our call that no member of Congress should ever vote against necessary ammunition, supplies and equipment for our troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan as my opponent has done too often.
