Zeldin Urges Sewer Expansion

Cites Clear Need for Residential, Business Growth

MASTIC, NY (03/24/2008)(readMedia)-- The endorsed Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District today called for a massive, countywide overhaul to modernize Suffolk's sewage system, calling the expansion necessary for the growth of the county's residential and business sectors.

GOP candidate Lee Zeldin, running to represent the Eastern Long Island district, echoed recent calls by county leadership and pledged to support what he described as "intelligent, efficient growth for Suffolk County's future."

"Without sewer expansion, the economy inevitably suffers and this is unacceptable," said Zeldin. "If we can't support growth, businesses will continue looking elsewhere and our back will remain turned on families and young professionals interested in moving to our communities."

"This shouldn't have been an issue left for my generation to resolve," said Zeldin. "As Congressman, I will take the lead necessary to ensure my daughters aren't handed down this mess once it is their time to protect our communities."

In addition to providing Suffolk County with the systems necessary for community development, Zeldin also sees additional opportunities to maximize the effectiveness of the upgrades.

"A way to combat many of the redundancies of Long Island's special districts is to force municipalities to work together," said Zeldin. "While infusing our communities with the necessary infrastructure upgrades, we can also use this opportunity to execute a clear example of efficient government."

Zeldin served as an aide to State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle. The Shirley resident studied at the University at Albany, graduated from Albany Law School, and earned his commission through Army ROTC. He was a paratrooper, prosecutor and magistrate with the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps. In the summer of 2006, he was a JAG attorney deployed to Iraq. He is currently an attorney at Raiser & Kenniff on Long Island.
